Harnessing the Power of the Sun:
Bringing Green Energy to All

The latest developments in solar power are marking a turning point in wildlife protection and clean energy generation.

Only 390 black-footed ferrets are left in the wild, making them one of North America’s most endangered mammals. To prevent their extinction, World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the world’s leading conservation organization is advancing its recovery and conservation efforts with the help of sustainable energy solutions from Jackery—a global leader in solar generators.

Since its birth in California over a decade ago, Jackery has been on a mission to bring green energy to all. Through innovative products, like the world’s first portable power station and solar panel bundle, it continues to support the outdoor industry in its transition away from non-renewable energy generation. And it is now extending the frontiers of solar to wildlife conservation.

“By partnering with Jackery, WWF has gained a platform to further its efforts to conserve biodiversity, combat climate change, and promote sustainable practices,” says Tracy Wang, Head of Global Public Relations at Jackery. “It is this shared responsibility towards the environment that will enable them to deliver on a vision for a future in which people live in harmony with nature,” says Wang.

A responsible rescue mission

Non-native disease and insufficient prairie dog habitat are the biggest threats to black-footed ferrets in North America. In response, WWF is working with partners to protect them—and their prairie dog prey—against sylvatic plague, restore the grassland habitat in which they live, and vaccinate them against infection. Because the ferrets are nocturnal mammals, this often means tracking, monitoring, and capturing them for observation and vaccination at night—when powered equipment is essential.

While ground teams typically rely on gas generators to power their Outdoor Medical Vehicles (OMVs), WWF has recognized the importance of eliminating noise and air pollution from the process.

There is a real need for new technology and innovative solutions to help improve ferret detection and protection.

To meet this need, Jackery is equipping conservationists with green energy solutions for the field. During fall 2023, its portable solar generators will be used to power the OMVs in a way that is more convenient and responsible than gas, and less disruptive to black-footed ferrets and their ecosystem.

This comes one year after its announced partnership with the National Forest Foundation (NFF), through which a joint pledge to plant 10,000 trees in the US was made. With the aim of restoring the country’s wildlife habitats and enhancing its forest health, it showcases Jackery’s commitment to positive climate action and carbon-negative solutions.

Consumer to conservationist

The protection and conservation of nature is a global duty—exemplified in a recent Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) report from Jackery. As the first of its kind to be published by the portable energy storage industry, it showcases the groundbreaking work Jackery is doing in ecological operations, social innovation, and corporate governance.

However, this environmental responsibility doesn’t just fall to corporations. Consumers also have a role to play, particularly those who find fulfilment in interacting with the great outdoors. “By choosing ethical wildlife experiences, respecting local flora and fauna, and supporting conservation initiatives, travelers can contribute to the preservation of Earth’s rich biodiversity,” explains Wang.

This mindful approach to travel doesn’t have to result in a complete detachment from the modern world. With Jackery’s solar generators, travelers can take advantage of a zero-carbon energy supply to power their essential utilities and stay connected in critical scenarios—safe in the knowledge that their surroundings will leave a lasting impression on them and not the other way around.

Recent additions to the Jackery Plus series encourage outdoor adventure through sustainable practice. For instance, the Solar Generator 1000 Plus and 300 Plus enable maximum functionality with minimal environmental impact. Whether users need to charge large camera equipment for a wildlife stakeout or smaller mobile devices for a true backpacker experience, Plus series products offer them a reliable power source with the confidence to go off-grid.

For a greener tomorrow

The Jackery Plus series includes the world’s first all-in-one packaged solar generator, integrating a portable power station and solar panels. Able to automatically generate electricity when exposed to sunlight, it demonstrates a level of flexibility unmatched by traditional energy generation methods.

Its full catalogue of power solutions is verified by TÜV SÜD, the global body for safety, security, and sustainability—but maintaining this certification means keeping up with the pace of innovation.

Jackery is constantly looking for ways to improve efficiencies, increase energy storage capacities, and incorporate the latest advancements in renewable energy technologies. And to also predict the future expectations of climate-conscious consumers, who are always seeking new travel experiences and new ways to make a positive impact.

Under this forward lens, Jackery will continue to inspire consumers, industries, and organizations to make planet-positive energy choices. Helping WWF to utilize solar for the recovery of black-footed ferrets is only the beginning.

By leveraging our expertise in green energy solutions and WWF’s extensive experience in conservation, this partnership can power progress on a broader scale.
