Including warehousing and ports, freight transportation accounts for <a href=\"https:\/\/climate.mit.edu\/explainers\/freight-transportation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"sponsored\">11% of greenhouse gas emissions,<\/a> and electrifying large trucks, planes, and ships \u2013 which carry heavy loads over long distances \u2013 is proving more difficult than cars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But logistics encompasses much more than heavy transport, leaving plenty of space to reduce emissions elsewhere. Pointing to the detailed roadmap which spans every corner of its business, Al Sheibany cites Asyad\u2019s uncommonly joined-up perspective as key to making progress on sustainability.<\/p><p>Alongside pioneering sustainable finance \u2013 which sees dedicated funds go to environmental performance goals &#8211; Asyad is already deploying energy optimization strategies in its many ports and freezones. And with the International Energy Agency (IEA) projecting that ammonia will <a rel=\"sponsored\" rel=\"sponsored\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/sustainability\/climate-energy\/voyage-net-zero-which-green-shipping-fuel-will-rule-seas-2023-05-15\/\">account for 45% of shipping fuel by 2050<\/a>, the company is leveraging its role as a global trade enabler to push for green corridors \u2013 shipping lanes available exclusively to vessels using zero-carbon fuels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But achieving these goals will require more than logistics might, which is why Asyad is adamant in supporting the new technologies, start-ups and SMEs that hold the key to transformative change in decarbonization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-white-color has-text-color has-background has-link-color wp-elements-1d74a9f8bd117d3c5ca6e2b5396b8270 is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\" style=\"background-color:#702082\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-cnn-heading\"><h2 class=\"wp-block-cnn-heading__heading\">Amplifying innovation<\/h2><div class=\"wp-block-cnn-heading__content\"><p>\u201cThere is a risk for first movers,\u201d says Al Sheibany. \u201cIf the energy transition is going to work, companies like us need to reduce the risk for SMEs and technology providers. So that is what we\u2019re doing.\u201d<\/p><p>The company has already engaged with Omani startup <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wakud.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"sponsored\">Wakud<\/a> to convert the Sultanate\u2019s public buses to biofuels, while another SME is installing sensors on Asyad\u2019s ships to monitor emissions.
