Powering the Next Green Energy Growth

The Philippines will host CEPSI 2021, a global conference to discuss the future of energy in Asia Pacific.

Energy is essential for almost all human activities; it connects our economic, social, and environmental needs. As the world embarks on a global recovery post pandemic, the demand for cleaner energy has never been greater.

According to Marjolein Helder, CEO of Plant-e, the only company in the world that makes electricity with living plants, “Sustainability is determined by three different parameters: environmental sustainability, social sustainability, and economic sustainability.”

The Asia Pacific region is responsible for half of the world’s energy consumption and half of the global greenhouse emissions. In 2011, leaders in the APEC Economies set to reduce energy consumption by at least 45% by 2035. The region has a vast renewable energy (RE) potential; its current RE share in hydropower and bioenergy will soon have solar photovoltaics and wind included in the mix.

Recognizing the region’s commitment to renewables, the Association of Electricity Supply Industry of East Asia and the Western Pacific (AESIEAP) is holding the 23rd Conference of the Electricity Power Supply Industry (CEPSI) to address the growing need for reliable, stable and sustainable power supply. The event will be held online in light of the global health crisis, in November, and the Philippines will play host.

Participants will gain insights from global experts, share and exchange ideas on best practices, and explore new business opportunities during the virtual conference.

With the different sessions and discussions we have in store for the participants, we are sure that everyone would gain invaluable insights on how the energy industry continues to empower communities worldwide.

Alfonso G. Cusi, Energy Secretary, Philippines’ Department of Energy

“Energized Countries, Empowered Communities” is the theme for this year’s event, and the key agenda will include: sustainable power generation; access to reliable, cost-effective electricity; and emergence of advanced, smart power grids, among others. With many of Asia’s leading energy experts and CEOs in attendance, keynote speakers will include: Shigeru Muraki, Vice Chair for Asia Network, World Energy Council; Gil C. Quinones, President and CEO of the New York Power Authority; Sanda Ojiambo, Executive Director and CEO, United Nations Global Compact; and Ariel Ong, President and CEO, First Philec. More major speakers are also lined up.

The conference will also include a discussion among regional industry leaders and experts on “Decarbonizing Power Through Balanced Energy Solutions for Security and Sustainability”, “Greening the Boardroom: Sustainability as a Corporate Priority” and “Smart Distribution Utility and Advanced Metering Infrastructure Towards a Better Normal”.

During the Conference, over 400 Technical Papers will be presented on best practices, research and innovation, market trends, business opportunities, and policies. These Technical papers will cover the five tracks which include Microgrid and Distributed Energy Resources, Power Generation, Energy Storage and Carbon Capture, The Future of Transmission Grid and Distribution Network, Smart Infrastructure for Smart Cities and Retail and Customer Empowerment and Experience.

CEPSI 2021 is spearheaded by the Philippines’ Department of Energy, Manila Electric Company, National Power Corporation, National Grid Corporation of the Philippines, National Transmission Corporation, and the Department of Tourism.

Individuals and organizations interested to join as delegates, sponsors or exhibitors can get in touch with the organizers here.

“CEPSI is an effective platform to communicate and exchange experiences with players in the region, sharing insights and predictions about the energy industry,” says Mr. Bernie Leong, Chairman of the Executive Committee, Companhia de Electricidade de Macau (CEM), Macau SAR.

Each edition’s conference theme allows us to keep pace with the times, inspiring us to transform in response to the rapid innovation in technology. Also, the wide spread of power-related delegates from different countries maximizes the horizon of view exchange.
