Architecting The UAE’s E-Mobility Ecosystem
In Focus At COP28
During COP28 UAE, the future of mobility is a hot topic as businesses and global governments set the course for a greener, cleaner future.
Cross-sector support for progress
The latest chapter in the fight against climate change is here. The 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) promises to play a pivotal role as the world moves closer to the 1.5°C degree deadline of the Paris Climate Agreement.
Against the backdrop of this annual event, Al-Futtaim Group, one of the Middle East’s largest diversified business conglomerates and a significant player in the regional automotive sector, has emerged as the Strategic E-Mobility Partner for COP28.
Collaboration between the public and private sectors is recognized as a powerful driver of change, stimulating innovation and progress in finding climate change solutions. Spotlighting E-Mobility throughout the event sends a clear message that the future of mobility, clean energy and climate change is intrinsically linked.
“The future of business is inextricably linked with the future of our planet,” said Omar Al Futtaim, Vice Chairman and CEO of Al-Futtaim Group. “As a major stakeholder in the business landscape of the UAE, we have a key responsibility to make sure we continue setting strong sustainability targets across all our divisions and continue echoing our country’s aspirations in the climate change agenda.”
The future of mobility
COP28 is recognized as a critical milestone in the international community’s collective responsibility to combat climate change, rallying governments, businesses, and other stakeholders together to set the course to a better future.
Key to these discussions is the future of mobility. The automotive industry is transitioning to electric and hybrid technology, ushering in an era of cleaner, greener transportation at every level, from personal to public and commercial vehicles.
Al-Futtaim Automotive, one of the major divisions of the Al-Futtaim Group, has demonstrated a commitment to sustainability. As early adopters, the company introduced hybrid electric vehicles to the UAE through a collaboration with Toyota. This partnership grew, recently delivering a fleet of 554 Toyota Camry Electric Hybrid vehicles to the Dubai Taxi Corporation. It continues to set ambitious targets, such as providing 50% of new energy vehicles (NEVs) and 10% of the UAE’s charging stations by 2030. And as the largest distributor in the UAE, its actions will have an impact beyond its ability to deliver vehicles.
The introduction of the Charge2Moov electric charging solution, a wide-reaching e-mobility ecosystem developed with Siemens, will bring NEV access to more people. This approach is underlined by a goal of democratizing the future of mobility, which is also demonstrated by a diverse range of NEV models and ownership options, including lease-to-own and subscription models, helping to break down the barriers between people, businesses, and a more sustainable way of driving.
Ultimately, this commitment aligns with the broader goals of COP28, where nations and industries create strategies which pave the way to a more sustainable future.
Supporting COP28
Throughout the event, the company will showcase through several panel conferences on the Green Zone stage, focusing on critical issues such as decarbonization and the value of a sustainable value chain while hosting a dedicated space to showcase everything from its EV ecosystem to a VR showroom, and even a training facility for next-gen EV technicians.
In its capacity as the Strategic E-Mobility Partner for COP28, Al-Futtaim Group will underpin mobility throughout the event by supplying a fleet of 370 electrified vehicles, including cars, SUVs, and buses from brands like Polestar, BYD, Volvo, Lexus, Toyota and Volvo Group. Additionally, the company will install its Charge2Moov electric charging stations at the venue.
Collaborations with key partners showcase Al-Futtaim’s commitment to forming alliances that share its goals while furthering the sustainability ambitions of the UAE.
As the world converges at Expo City Dubai for COP28, Al-Futtaim Group’s role as the Strategic E-Mobility Partner will lead by example. In doing so, it’s not just aligning with the goals of COP28 but actively defining the future of mobility and clean automation.
